Estimates of Eigenvalues for Iterative Methods
We describe a procedure for determining estimates of the eigenvalues of operators used in various iterative methods for the solution of linear systems of equations. We also show how to determine upper and lower bounds for the error in the approximate solution of linear equations, using essentially the same information as that needed for the eigenvalue calculations. The methods described depend ...
متن کاملIterative Methods for Transmission Eigenvalues
Transmission eigenvalues have important applications in inverse scattering theory. They can be used to obtain useful information of the physical properties, such as the index of refraction, of the scattering target. Despite considerable effort devoted to the existence and estimation for the transmission eigenvalues, the numerical treatment is limited. Since the problem is non-standard, classica...
متن کاملIterative Methods for Computing Eigenvalues and Eigenvectors
We examine some numerical iterative methods for computing the eigenvalues and eigenvectors of real matrices. The five methods examined here range from the simple power iteration method to the more complicated QR iteration method. The derivations, procedure, and advantages of each method are briefly discussed.
متن کاملDeflation of Eigenvalues for Iterative Methods in Lattice QCD
Work on generalizing the deflated, restarted GMRES algorithm, useful in lattice studies using stochastic noise methods, is reported. We first show how the multi-mass extension of deflated GMRES can be implemented. We then give a deflated GMRES method that can be used on multiple right-hand sides of Ax = b in an efficient manner. We also discuss and give numerical results on the possibilty of co...
متن کاملComponentwise Error Estimates for Solutions Obtained by Stationary Iterative Methods
In stationary iterative methods for solving linear systems Ax = b, the iteration x = Hx + c, where H and c are the iteration matrix derived from A and the vector derived from A and b, respectively, is executed for an initial vector x. We present a theorem which yields componentwise error estimates for x, and clarify the relation between our result and a previous result.
